[01] ORIGIN
Born into the right window: late enough to inherit a working Commodore from a hand-me-down shelf, early enough to learn the boot sequence as a kind of morning ritual. The 64 came first. The Amiga came after. The screen was blue. The magic was the blue screen.
The Workbench felt like a place I could live in. xcopy
was my holy grail. The Amiga taught me that an operating system
could be beautiful, and that a computer could be a companion,
not a tool.
Persistence beats RAM, and a 40-column screen is enough to make anything if you care enough about it.
[02] THE LONG WAY AROUND
Studied mechanical engineering. Did the work. Spent almost two decades in aerospace research along the way. The career is real and it paid for things. It is not the point of this page.
What the career did give me: a stubbornness about getting a measurement right, a habit of reading the manual twice, and a low tolerance for magic components that don't explain themselves. All of that is useful in every other part of my life too.
[03] THE STACK
What I actually spend time on, in order of weekly hours:
- Gaming. Dwarf Fortress, Caves of Qud, retro anything I can get my hands on. GTA definitely included, no apologies.
- Music production. Under the same name. Synthesis, sampling, the boring parts of mixing.
- Synthesizers. Modular. Eurorack. The smell of patch cables and warm capacitors.
- Programming. Python these days, a long list of languages before it. C, LabVIEW, whatever gets the job done.
- Electronics. Because the synths don't wire themselves, and the sensors don't solder themselves.

Building tools I'd want to use, in the lab and out. Following LLM news skeptically — every new model gets tested against the real workflow before I say anything nice about it. Reading the Dwarf Fortress devlog the way other people read the newspaper. Probably playing Caves of Qud.
